In Singapore when it comes to the baby’s first month party (or baby shower as it is known in the western countries), people who are invited typically give one or both of the following: a red packet containing an acceptable amount of money or a gift for the baby.

For our friends in the United States etc, well-wishers come with gifts they picked from the baby registry that the new parents had filled out so red packets are very rare (correct me if I’m wrong).

Here in Singapore however, it’s perfectly acceptable to give money in red packets to symbolise congratulations and well wishes. I’m curious though, will our Singapore readers actually consider signing up for a baby registry? Just recently I read about Ann Aludra (a fellow Singaporean) who set up a business sellling diaper cakes online after she received positive feedback and it seems like she is doing well.
